Recreating tennis tournament souvenir shirts of yesteryear.
Tournaments and their sponsors come and go.
Where once was a tennis oasis, now is a shopping mall.
It is a sign of the times.
I wanted to re-create what may have been a tournament souvenir shirt. Here is a shirt I made about the Rome Open Championships that was set for 1972. To keep the shirt of the era, Helvetica was used in line with a clean Swiss grid design format.

Each shirt is a work of art utilizing the fabric as a canvas. On the reverse side of the shirt, the artist's signature is placed into a motif inspired by his first professional tennis racquet, the Wilson Ultra 2. This practice echoes the 1980’s trend where designers added their name to apparel as a mark of high design and quality.
